Oh America, what DID you do to our Yorkshire Puddings? LOL moment

on 5/15/2018, 1:51 pm
I'm all for trying different foods from around the world, and today I saw something in the news I never expected to see... a Yorkshire Pudding with SWEET fillings!

Anyone in the UK knows a yorkshire pudding is traditionally served with beef, vegetables and onion gravy, like the miniature ones on this sunday dinner here:

Sometimes you get a large yorkshire pudding with the beef, veg and gravy inside the pudding.

Interesting enough, here is the American Version, served with fruit and sugar, apparently called a dutch baby:

From what I understand, the batter is exactly the same, the only difference is what it is served with. Apparently people in Yorkshire are pissed off about it, since the earliest recorded recipe for a yorkshire pudding pre-dates the founding of the United States (according to ITV news anyway). I can't say there is much to be annoyed about really, since many new dishes are re-vamps of old ones. What confuses me is why it's called a dutch baby, since the batter recipe originates from Yorkshire. Can any Americans on the forum shed some light on how your version got it's name? I find it most interesting.

PS. I love yorkshire puds!

You’d like a sandwich? Sure. I’ll cook some more bacon. Smile

And More Artery-Clogging. Although for sheer heart-attack-inducing food, it’s hard to beat the Standard British Breakfast.

BTW, Wikipedia knows (or is willing to opine on) all things, including the origin of Dutch Baby pancakes:
