CONSANGUINAMORY STUDY RELAUNCH Empty CONSANGUINAMORY STUDY RELAUNCH

Due to only getting eleven responses in two and a half months, I've decided to do the study a different way. People can now do it by filling out multiple choice questions online. It's quicker, easier, and anonymous. Please consider filling it out because I'm trying to compile some data on the community as a whole.

hopefully this works smoother; I've the feeling that the demography might show something subtle we have in common.
do you think anyone would be interested in taking Myers-Briggs personality tests? there's a good free one out there. It always seemed like a curious thing.

Katherine Briggs and her daughter Isabel were personality psychologists. Extrapolating from Jung's theories, they developed a set of sixteen general personalities; you might recognize them by the letter clusters they use to identify personality types (ENFP, ISTJ, etc). It's not perfect, but some of the better tests are pretty accurate approximations.
The one I like most is on 16personalities. They integrated aspects from the Big Five personality type system and it feels more well-rounded for that. And it has a percentage rating instead of a Yes/No rating, that's always nice!
and thank you motherson!

Oh, okay. I've never done any personality tests except maybe those joke ones like 'which Jedi would you be' or 'what colour describes you' kind of thing.

ookay, went through the survey to see what it was like, and I've some questions and ideas about it. They're a bit wordy, so if you think it would be too much clutter to post it here, email is always an option! whichever is more convenient for you Jane.
...and what kind of Jedi would you be?!

I don't mind if you want to add your suggestions into this thread. The purpose of my study is to gather some general data on us... I reckon it will do that. Obviously now that the study is ongoing it's too late to be changing questions and so on, but I can run another one next year with extra questions or different ones.

CONSANGUINAMORY STUDY RELAUNCH Empty Re: CONSANGUINAMORY STUDY RELAUNCH

Tue 31 May 2016 - 21:17
Yes it is a bit late for modifying things! but like you say, perhaps at a later date.
ookay here are some ideas for extra questions, options, and possible wordings:

---How would you describe your sexuality?
Graysexual (an umbrella term for more sexuality than asexual, but fairly limited compared to normative sexuality)
Asexual
Other/Unsure
---How would you describe your romantic preferences? (split off from previous question)
Polyamorous
Open Monogamy
Monogamous
Aromantic
Other/Unsure
---How would you describe your monetary conditions? (approximate income may imply employment, which would rule out homemakers, caregivers, in-between jobs, or the otherwise jobless)
I'm homeless or will be soon

(Side Note: as of 2012 USD exchange rates, people consider other people to be "rich" when they have roughly 2 million USD or more, whereas people tend to consider themselves to be rich when they have anywhere from 5 million to 100 million USD; 95% of all millionaires have 1-10 million USD. These views are likely reflective of the US sample pool of the time period, and may be different in other countries or future dates, especially when accounting for inflation).

---What's your level of education?
Am currently enrolled in high school/secondary education (secondary education is a good word for most Eastern Bloc countries & Russia)
Dropped out of high school/secondary education
Finished high school ("with some qualifications" wasn't sure what to make of this)(perhaps an addendum if homeschooled to equivalent level and/or have received a diploma equivalent to a high-school diploma)
Went to college (in UK terminology this usually means more like vocational school, right?)
Went to university (US terminology this is often colloquially used interchangeably with college, regardless of exact linguistic definitions)
Am currently attending a college/university
(should there be an addendum for what level or number of degrees were obtained? or would that be too much prying?)
---Is incest legal in your country? (perhaps make the distinction between "legal consanguinamorous marriage" and "decriminalized incest but no legal marriage options")
---Is your consanguinamorous relationship current or in the past?
Current
In the past
On hold (either with a definite return date, or an unsure amount of time for separation)
---How long have you/were you together for? (when people are separated for a time, then get back together, what would be the right way to determine the time?)
---Was your family member your first sexual experience? (experience instead of partner might be better for people who have been sexually abused by other people before being involved with family, as the idea of identifying the abuser as a partner might not work)
Yes, they were
Yes, they were and have been my only sexual experience
No, I had had sexual experiences with others before being with them
No, I have had/am having sexual experiences with other people after being with them
No, I have not had sex
(doing it like this removes the other question "has your family member been your only sexual partner", but at the cost of inflating the questions)
---Have you ever shared a house together? (growing up under the same roof doesn’t count)
Yes, but with roommates (either aware of the situation, or unaware)
---Have you any children?
Yes, and my relative is their father/mother
Yes, with somebody who isn't related
Yes, with somebody who isn't related, but me and my relative are raising them as their parents (might be a superfluous addition)
Yes, we have adopted children (might be a superfluous addition
Yes, it is a combination of the above (isn't necessary with a select-all-that-apply however)
No, but we are preparing to conceive and/or adopt
No
---How would you describe your relationship?
Loving but sometimes dysfunctional ("definitely not perfect" might be a better substitute for "sometimes dysfunctional", as people don't tend to want to identify with dysfunction but may feel more comfortable identifying with having quite a few rocky days; hopefully this would result in more accurate returns. It may be a matter of personal preference for wording)
---How do you feel about being consanguinamorous?
I'm comfortable with it and I wouldn't change it even if I could
I'm comfortable with it but had I a choice in the matter things might have been different (not sure if this is sufficiently good wording either but oh well)
I'm conflicted about it
I wish I wasn't because people aren't meant to feel like this towards family members
I wish I wasn't because it is far too risky and/or nerve-wracking
I wish I wasn't because of unrequited love (this would mostly be true for people unable to form exsanguinous relationships)
(perhaps also "I've always felt comfortable with it", and "I used to feel uncomfortable with it, but no longer do")
---Do you ever feel ashamed of your sexuality?
Yes, often
Yes, sometimes
Yes, occasionally
No, not anymore
Never have
---Do you fear being caught?
No, it's not illegal where I live
---Do you feel that there is anything wrong with being consanguinamorous?
seems better to not have a reason listed as to why someone might pick yes or no; allows those with other motivations or ideas to select it more comfortably.
---Do you ever have fears that you might be some kind of pervert? ("some kind of pervert" might be a prickly way of saying it but most other ones aren't much better; "might be sexually deviant" perhaps? if not, well some anvils have to be dropped)
I do not make a distinction between perverse and non-perverse (this might not be necessary, almost everyone does. Almost. Usually more options are better though; more potential data)
---Do you ever fear that your partner might be coercing you without either of you realizing?
No, I'd realize if I was being (or "I trust that they would not do that")
---What’s your take on society’s attitude towards consanguinamory?
It's ignorant; they only hate us because they don't understand us yet
I'm unsure if they're right, but I think that the reactions are too extreme
I think they might be right (removing "I wish they weren't" allows people who feel more conflicted on their own sexuality to select it without feeling that words are being put into their mouth; another solution is having two options, one with the extra thoughts and one without)
---Do you think that the law should change in all countries to allow consanguinamorous relationships and marriage?
Yes, and the sooner the better
Yes, but it should happen gradually
Maybe, I'm not sure
No, but the penalties for incest should be reduced and/or removed
No, that could be a bad idea
---Have you ever suffered (or are suffering) from any of the following problems as a result of persecution or fear of persecution? Please click all that apply
Psychosomatic Ailments (when strong negative emotions manifest as physical illness)
---Have you ever suffered interpersonal conflict as a result of persecution? Please click all that apply
Denied convenient services (like a restaurant refusal, in countries where you can be open about it)
Denied necessities (like medical attention)
Thrown out of home
Lost employment
Lost friends
Lost family
Charged, but not imprisoned
Charged and imprisoned
Physical Assault
Sexual Assault
Emotional or Psychological Abuse
General Harassment
General Ostracization (different from harassment as it is more like being avoided/ignored/uncooperated with, rather than confronted)
---Do you think that the blogs portray an accurate picture of what it’s really like to be in a consanguine relationship?
Yes, for the few blogs that are out there (would allow potential complaints about limited sample pools; you might word this better than I)
---What are your views on ‘incest porn’?
I don't watch it; it's insulting and degrading
I don't watch it, but I am indifferent towards or accepting of it
I watch it sometimes, but I understand why some people get upset
I watch it, I don't see what the problem is or feel that it is having a positive influence on society
I don't have an opinion because I don't watch it
I disapprove for other reasons (those who have not accepted themselves due to societal influence are likely to see incest porn in a similarly painted light)
---Would you ever join a non-porn forum on consanguinamory, like Kindred Spirits?
Yes (select if you are a member already)(putting the member identifier separate allows people to select Yes even if they haven't joined yet but want to; it also means that members who take the test and choose Yes won't be identified in the data, thus increasing anonymity)
I might
No (removing the note here might be better, gives more wiggle room for refusal; if the addendum needs to stay, additional options for No could be: "it doesn't feel safe"; "it doesn't seem like my kind of forum" - which is similar but distinct from "I don't like forums")
---Would you ever join the ‘I support full marriage equality’ facebook group?
No, I don't trust/like social media
---Would you ever consider doing any online activism for the cause yourself?
No, it's too risky
No, there is too much other stuff going on right now
No, I don't think it's a productive approach
Yes, regardless of state snooping
Yes, as long as I can protect myself from state snooping
Yes, though I'm not sure how to contribute
I'm already doing it
---Which topics do you think we need to cover more about?
Life Stories

one could also add addendums for significant others (like on "have you ever experienced this..." type questions, it would change to "have you or your significant other(s) ever experienced...")

also, a question for "do you feel you are exclusively consanguinamorous?" might be good, for those who can or suspect they can form exsanguinamorous romances and/or sexual attractions

~~~~~~~~~~
All in all it is a good survey and very user friendly too!
my relationship past is a bit murky, so questions related to that didn't quite have the right options; a checkbox for "it never went anywhere" or something would probably work in most cases. They could also just be skipped, but that might skew the data. If the survey is more intended for those who have definitively been in or are having a relationship, let me know! I didn't submit the test results in order not to skew the data if that was the case
Thanks for the feedback, it's definitely something I'd look into if I do another study, adding options that you've suggested, they're pretty good.
Oh, and people can skip a question if it doesn't apply to them. For instance on the mental health question, people can skip it altogether if none of those apply.... so the number of people who skipped indicate that those people are not suffering from a mental health issue (or at least not the common ones I have listed).
Like all things, my survey is far from perfect, but I think it will do what I intend it to do, which is give us some basic data about ourselves that currently does not exist. I'm surprised nobody thought of doing this before!
It is quite a good survey! and you're welcome it's always good to have been of some help.
Thank you for having the patience to read through all that, it wasn't terribly organized! and also thank you answering my question as well, that clears that out of the way.
some people have tried in the past, but it never went anywhere; too hard to find a large enough sample pool willing to risk talking about it. Thank goodness for the internet!
still... we've had the internet for some time now. It is a bit odd that no one considered a retry; it always seemed like a good idea. Might stem from social bias, though who knows really.
hi, i took the survey. I liked it. on a few questions, i wanted to add a few comments to clarify, but could not. maybe consider adding a optional comment section at the end, or even a comment section with each question. As an example, it asked how long we have been together, since we are in brother\sister relationship, for us kinda hard to say when it started because it kinda seems like its just happen over the course of many years. I kinda answered it based on when we became sexual together, but even that was a process of exploration that occurred gradually and naturally.
overall, survey was just fine. Smile
Thanks for the feedback Smile I did consider doing optional comments, but the main purpose of the survey was for statistical information which is why I decided not to include them. I may include them in some surveys in the future though depending on what I intend to find out. This survey is basically for getting basic information about us, just because nobody has done one yet and the results may prove interesting. I think most people would answer that particular question based upon when the relationship became sexual.
There should be a "back" button. I missed a couple of questions because I accidentally tripped "Next" but there was no way to return to the missed question.
I wasn't aware of the lack of back button, maybe that's just the way that website works. Sadly it was one of the few websites I could use which did not require me to provide my real name, and usually with things that are free and anonymous there does tend to be some drawbacks. This appears to be one of them. Sorry about that, and thanks for taking the survey Smile
