reverse rock-paper-scissors

on Fri 14 Apr - 22:19
Okay so last night I was thinking about similarities, and remembered a game me and my sis used to play. We didn't have a name for it but reverse rock-paper-scissors is good enough! We had the idea after watching an episode of Farscape (idk if anyone here remembers that).
Anyways, instead of going for a better hand, you match your hand with theirs. So if you think they're going to play paper, you play paper too instead of playing scissors. The goal is: how many times can you match before you don't? go for longer unbroken strings
so if you want, give it a try with your SO! or if you've done this before, that would be awesome hearing too!

Interesting idea. You invent an algorithm for making the next choice, and your SO has to work out your algorithm and match it, while simultaneously running her own algorithm. Game is over when either side is able to match 100%.

Simple example: Choose the choice not taken in the last round. So if you choose rock and she chooses scissors, your next choice is paper. If both choose paper, then... ? Maybe choose what beats paper, i.e., scissors.

The fun part would be to invent more complex schemes.

Rule 27: No telepathy allowed. Smile

Sleepy, if you read my mind, you'll see thin air. And that's exactly where the number 27 came from. Wink

No riddle involved. I just picked 27 because I wanted to give the wholly facetious impression that the game had a lot of arcane rules.

Did I accidentally hit your secret number or something?

Rock.

Ohhhh
Yes, that was our record. It might've been 28 or 29, possibly 26, but I think it was 27 (it was over a decade ago). So as you might imagine, you picking that number made me very curious. But sometimes things just happen too

...scissors?

Cool on the coincidence! The ESP must have been cranking that time, and some of it spilled over to me! Smile

The odds of 27 consecutive tie rounds of rock-paper-scissors, if the choices are truly random, are more than 7 trillion to one!

I had paper, so you win, and we're out. Sad You're best off playing reverse RSP with your sis!

But it is possible to become a rock-scissors-paper shark! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/men/thinking-man/11051704/How-to-always-win-at-rock-paper-scissors.html

Yes, she told me afterwards, it was very neat ^_^
Blah. Was hoping for a better run than that; perhaps another time. But thank you for the article, it was an interesting read.
