booster seats

on Mon 19 Feb - 4:25
So not that long ago we were talking with a friend who has children. While we were talking child seats and booster seats came up. One thing that she said was that her kids will have to use booster seats until they are 4ft 9in. Which it turns out is what the NHTSA says. Witch is very different then when we grew up. If you were to big for one of those large plastic car seats then you just sat down in a normal seat and moved the shoulder strap out of your face. But man are we both glad not to be kids today, neither of us were that tall until out 3rd year of high school.

But this got both of us think about how other safety thing might change in the future.

i don't think that's right. what about adults that are less than 4'9" ? i think it goes by a combination of weight and height.

oddly we are both right ther is no height retirement to drive but then sites will say "Children at this stage are not yet ready for adult safety belts and should use belt-positioning booster seats until they are at least 4’9″ and between 8 and 12 years old. Safety belts are designed for 165-pound male adults, so it’s no wonder that research shows poorly fitting adult belts can injure children."

so *shrug* either way look at height and weight if we were a kid to day we would have to have been one well into high school
