I'm launching this one today, it's running for one year, maybe longer if it takes longer to collect enough data.

I just took the quiz but I was wondering, can I take it again after I give birth in February? It's okay if I can't. I think the biggest thing people are against incest is because of inbreeding. A child is still a child regardless who the parents is. The child shouldn't be looked, or treated any less than any other child. Jane Doe, may I ask you a personal question, if you and your dad ever got back together, would you consider having a child with him?

Nicky, I will delete your result and that will leave you free to retake it in February. I really should have been more explicit about it being for people who have already given birth to their child.

As to whether or not I would have one with my dad... I doubt I'll be having any more. I have one and am quite happy just with the one.

just to give a little bit of genetic information to you all. there are really two areas where inbreeding would be concerned. one is resessive traits and diseases. these can be very bad and even fatal. most of these though we can spot with DNA test. so just like how a straight couple could go get tested and decide to have or not have children cosang should be allowed to do that.

The second area is antibodies. the way a antibody is made is 1 gene from 5 different libraries is picked. you have 2 sets of these one from your father and one from your mother. the greater the difference in these sets the. more likely you are to have an anti body that you need. so if you parents are related you have less anti to build. but because the genes for anti bodies are swapped around when supermarket and eggs are made. so even if you could make a human from a set of identical twins the child would not have the exact same antibodies. this could lead to a child born from relatives having fewer anti bodies to use against a certain disease. like say a normal person has 500 antibodies to use against ebola and the child could only have 200.

Would anyone know specifically what a DNA test would look for? Would it be done prior to conception or after?

DNA tests done on babies are most commonly done after birth (usually not for medical reasons, but to establish paternity when this is in doubt), and more rarely in utero and only if they can see that there is a serious problem (since the procedure itself is invasive). Parents can also get their own genes tested to find out if there is any hidden nasties before conception even occurs. That type of test wouldn't be looking for anything specific, but test for the most common serious abnormalities.
