My father died when I was still very young and my mother raised me and my two younger sisters by herself. My widowed mother was bitter and cold towards us and other family ever since his passing. Although young at the time, she did not attempt to start something new with another man. My teenage years were miserable and lonely.

While at University, living faraway from the home where I had grown up, I started seeing my mother's situation for what it really was. Sympathy for her situation overwhelmed me. Although I was busy with studies, travels, friends and work (in chronological order ), I reached out to my mother and we connected. We started calling each other long and often at night. During weekends, I started going "home" again to spend time with her. We were both surprised by how much we liked each other's company.

Our relationship developed naturally and rapidly. More than once, she told me that our sexual relationship helped her coping with the loss of her husband, twenty+ years after his death. And I attribute most of my newly-found self-confidence, positivity and happiness to her love and our secret bond.

To make a long story short, I had a decade-long romantic relationship with my mother that ended a little over a year after I got married in my early thirties.

What is triggering me to join this forum is that I now see my son struggle with himself and his life. I feel that his mother/my wife could make a decisively positive difference in his life, much like my mother did for me. But there are a lot of reasons why I have not had the courage to make the suggestion to her.

Perhaps other forum members have advise or can share some of their experience to support me.
