To all KS members,

Due to his exemplary performance in his duties as a moderator during my absence, I have decided that it was time to promote UN to the rank of Administrator, with all the rights, priviledges and responsibilities thereoff. I know it probably won't come as much of a surprise to most of you, but I'd like to say congrats to him and welcome to the admin team

Whose up for some mulled wine and a mince pie?

I love mince pie! Especially warm with some ice cream. And mulled wine would wash it down nicely.

Never had mince pie with ice cream before. I normally have it as is, just as a small snack after a meal or just on it's own. Us Brits eat a shitload of mince pies every december. Actually, I know one market stall from which I could buy them all year round if I wanted to, but for me, it would ruin the fact it's a seasonal food if I were to buy them the year round. But december is the only month in which I could get a mince pie in almost any shop.

I have however had a mince pie with Baileys poured on top of it. Baileys is also sometimes used as a topping for Christmas pudding, in lieu of custard or brandy sauce.

Un the US, a mince pie is a big thing, 8 inches or more around. I had to check whether the Brit version was a meat pie.

One of these days, I'll have to get over there to learn to drive on the wrong side of the road and speak English.

No, our mince pies are sweet, filled with dried fruits. They're also small:



A mince pie is typically around 4cm diameter and has sweet pastry.

BTW, Jane, I’d really like a piece of mince pie. My wife hates it, so we never have it. Hard sauce is great on warm mince pie too, if you like terminal sugar shock and clogged arteries. Every Christmas, Mom used to make a little “snowman” out of hard sauce and some pitted dates.

Now I've too many mince pies left. I wish I hadn't gotten 6 boxes of them... but they were buy one get one free. I wish I could PM them to you, you could gladly take some off my hands. They'll get eaten, but I'll be sick of them by the time the last box is gone.

Well, I get a lot of visitors over Xmas, and they all get offered mince pies as well as a cup of tea and sandwiches. Each box contains six mince pies, but like I said, our mince pies are small. about 4cm diameter per pie. It's quite easy to eat two with a cup of tea in the evening.

Can't think of anyone that isn't already upgraded that deserves it more than you. Belated Congrats, UN!
