Me and my Son

Hi, my name is Daniela and I'm from Italy and I'm currently in a relatioship with my "son". I used the air quotes because although he is my biological son he was adopted and we didn't meet until he was 17 ( relatioship started when he was 20).
Someone tallked to me about this forum after publishing my story on /r/incest.
I kept it short like the other stories.

It is my understanding that the law on incest in Italy is unusual in that it is illegal only if it creates a public scandal:

Incest is illegal in Italy only if it provokes public scandal, according to Article 564 of the Penal code and punishable from 2 to 8 years' imprisonment, open to more years for the older person if the other was under aged.[92]

The question of course is what constitutes a "public scandal?"

Apparently the language of the Italian incest law is quite literally a holdover from Fascism.

I hope this clarify a little more the law; anyway.... to be sure, it is always better maintain the much more possible the personal privacy about this.... (personal opinion).

While the Italian law is certainly better than the law in many countries regarding consang relationships, it isn't perfect. I really think they ought to do away with the whole 'public scandal' stipulation and just treat us as they would treat any other normal person.

The whole basis of protecting the public from consangs is absolutely ridiculous when you really break it down. The whole 'sanctity of the family unit' thing is bollocks, lots of things can cause problems in a family, and of course divorce is the dividing of a family unit. So it's really not as simple as some people would make out, not by a long shot!
