Re: UK Parliament e-petition
Tue 22 Dec 2020 - 5:17
Today I received an email stating that the petition was rejected. (This was despite it having met the requirement to have 5 signees with UK citizenship.
The petition said something like this:
De-criminalise adult consensual incest (ACI) for over 21s.
Petition reason
If ACI could result in harm to individuals or society, it would be fairer, less cruel and more financially prudent to respond to the possibility with harm reduction strategies ( i.e. genetic testing, optional abortion and legalised CIAO (ACI-Oriented) consanguineous marriage) than with criminalisation It would also bring UK law more in compliance with UN Charter / UDHR obligations.
The email was headed:
Dear xx,
Sorry, we can’t accept your petition – “De-criminalize adult consensual incest (ACI) for over 21s”.
It’s offensive, extreme or a joke.
We can't accept petitions that are offensive or extreme in their views.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards:

I found the email from the UK parliament to be both offensive and amusing at the same time : offensive because of its curtness, and amusing because virtually the same petition was sent to the New Zealand parliament and was accepted to the point where it was at least open for signing by anybody.
